Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
