Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former trainer his previous coach.
Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is the player's maiden championship after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.
Victory also means Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one different events.
"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.
His retrieving strategy and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to question if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.
But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a final set.
He defended four early opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.
Suitably, the winner secured victory with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
